Third Anniversary of Sewol Disaster

Sewol disaster third anniversary protest. We have held a silent protest at Trafalgar Square every month since the tragedy on 16 April 2014. This event is expected to be bigger in number, as happened at 1st and 2nd anniversary events, and will be a peaceful and dignified expression of support for the families of Sewol victims. Please join us on 15 April 2017 between 2pm and 4pm; you are welcome to stay for a short time or the whole two hour period. We will have placards available and you are invited to make and bring your own. Children welcome!

Things are happening quickly in South Korea. There are reasons to be optimistic, but not to be complacent.

The 2nd Anniversary Global Events

Events marking the 2nd anniversary of the Sewol ferry disaster will take place globally, currently planned in 30 cities outside South Korea.

In London, we have held a silent protest at Trafalgar Sq every third Saturday since the tragedy, and this year the second anniversary falls on a Saturday.

On 16th April we will gather once again outside the National Gallery (North side of Trafalgar Square) from 2pm for our monthly ‘Stay Put’ silent protest. Please join us on this significant day, and show the Sewol families that we still remember them and support them.  Continue reading “The 2nd Anniversary Global Events”

20th ‘Stay Put’ monthly Sewol silent protest in London

Please note the next protest in December will be on the 2nd Saturday of the month as several regular attendees, including a family member of one of the Sewol victims, will be away for the Christmas break from the following weekend. Subsequent protests will continue on 3rd Saturdays of the month as usual in 2016.

This month, we were joined by a family member of one of student victims.  He was heartened by the number of non-Koreans who knew about the disaster and many willingly sign the petition demanding the truth.
